Limitless Protection - Tram Stop 6

There have been more than 920 collisions between trams and cars in 2019 and more than 1,000 collisions between cars and trams in 2018.

Not to mention there were also more than 500 near misses in 2018 with 20 people suffering serious injuries requiring hospitalisation – 70 percent of whom were aged over 60.

As Melbourne’s CBD has five of the top 10 collision hot spots in the state, Yarra Trams is in partnership with Australian Bollards to ensure these numbers are not a recurring statistic.

Located on Russell St and Flinders St, Tram stop 6 is on the free tram zone, a stop away from Flinders St Station and right beside the NGV, making it one of the busiest stops in the city and the one in need of the most protection.

Australian Bollards supplied and installed an Energy Absorbing Bollard (AB-EAB) to protect against hostile vehicles, ram-raiding or just careless driving.

The need for bollards to be placed in high traffic and pedestrian areas is vital in protecting and preventing the public and their assets.

Compared to other regular frontal impact bollards, the AB-EAB is designed to absorb oncoming collisions, protect pedestrians, assets and infrastructure by decelerating the vehicle in a controlled manner.

Designed to a TL-0 containment level, it is capable of halting vehicles weighing 1700kg and come tailored to client needs to stop vehicles travelling at either up to 65km/h (AB-EAB65).

The bollard is installed at a sub-surface level, and comes in a galvanised steel and powder coated finish to provide an aesthetically pleasing touch to the product.

The AB-EAB is the benchmark bollard when you are looking to protect critical infrastructure, public transport hubs, tram stops, busy intersections, and general asset protection on the metro train network and near schools or universities.

The AB-EAB is compliant with the road safety barrier systems and device standards in the AS/NZS 3845 which was formed in 1999.

Engineered to save lives the energy absorbing bollards are designed, developed, and manufactured in Australia.
