Relief for repeat ram raid corner shop

A ram raided convenience store in Bodicote, England has received almost £3,000 (A$5,300) from its customers. Thieves drove a Land Rover through the unguarded shopfront aiming to steal an ATM. It turned out the ATM was empty. They made a dramatic escape in a nearby Audi. This is the shop’s third ram raid. Convenience stores are a common and frequent target for attacks. In Leopold, Victoria, an IGA has been raided for the third time in 12 months. A common theme with ram-raid incidents is thieves often target vicinities with ATMs such as shopp  ...read more

Trio uses stolen car in ram-raid against hotel

St Ives Hotel in Wodonga was ram-raided in the early hours of Tuesday morning. A group of three people used a stolen Subaru to ram through the doors of the hotel, only to steal a few bottles of alcohol. Police believe the ram-raid could be linked to other crimes in the area, for example a recent incident at Albury golf course shop where offenders smashed a window for a packet of chips. “It’s concerning when we have businesses that are targeted in this manner,” Detective Senior Constable Foots said in an interview with Bordermail.  ...read more

Ram-raid robbery shows there is a growing need for bollards

Last week, a group of around five men ram-raided Jai Jewellers in Smethwick, England. They smashed a lorry into the shop and threatened the staff with weapons. Before leaving with the gold, they attacked two police officers by throwing bricks at them. One of the police officers had to be taken to hospital with minor facial injuries. This incident shows that ram-raids aren't just inconvenient and expensive, they are also sometimes dangerous. With more and more ram-raids happening recently, it has never been more important for business owners to protect themselves and their b  ...read more

All the pedestrians have survived so far. It’s not known what caused the vehicle to lose control. Disaster can happen anywhere in the world, at any time for any reason. Recently a car has also driven through the front of a Cold Rock ice cream store in Rowville, Victoria (http://australianbollards.com.au/blog/cold-rock-smash-not-on-the-menu). One small  ...read more

Cold Rock smash not on the menu

A car has crashed into a Cold Rock ice-cream outlet at Wellington Village Shopping Centre in Rowville. The 54-year-old driver was treated for shock and the cause of the crash is unclear but the signs point to an accident. There were a few people inside the store and luckily no one was hurt this time but this might not always be the case. Whether drivers intentionally try to use their cars for ram raiding or not, the fact remains that danger can strike at any time. Shopfront protection is paramount for shop owners because asset & customer protection is a mu  ...read more

5 ram raids in 1 year: Leopold locals demand bollards

A supermarket in Ash Road, Leopold near Geelong has been ram raided for the third time in as many years. Locals are calling for bollards in their suburb. It’s the fifth Leopold ram raid in a year. Residents raised the outcry on social media, where some demanded political action or more police. Many others had a simpler solution: Stop the vehicle before crime can strike. “Why doesn’t the shop keeper install bollards,” read one of the first reactions on Facebook. Residents say they feel unsafe in their own homes as the   ...read more
