Protection in Melbourne’s famous laneways

(http://www.australianbollards.com.au/Catalog/gas-meter-bollards/ab-gm114-y) Melbourne is famous for its hidden lane ways. Cobbled streets, quirky graffiti art, exquisite coffee shops and hidden restaurant treasures are all common things you’ll find when taking a wonder down them. But despite these lanes being very narrow, cars still travel down them. For this reason, bollards are heavily desired to protect restaurant goers and shoppers from the traffic. Popular Italian Restaurant, Maccaroni Trattoria Italiana, is located in Manchester Lane, tucked away in t  ...read more

St James Primary School acts on pledge to keep students safe

St James The Apostle Primary School at Hoppers Crossing has installed twenty three stainless steel bollards at the curb at their pick-up and drop-off zone. Before the installation, the curb presented a danger as students had to stand close to the moving traffic. Now the bollards create a barrier between students and traffic, keeping them safe during the busy morning and afternoon hours. The bollards make sure potential accidents won’t result in harm. Cars will be stopped before hitting the curb, preventing incidents like the one at Greenacre School in Sydney this Novem  ...read more

Looking back at Melbourne's City Loop construction

With the City Loop going through a major upgrade, we thought it might be interesting to take a look back at how it all began 46 years ago. It was 1971 in Melbourne, the cost of a loaf of bread was 24 cents, the cassette tape was the latest and greatest in technology and the Victorian Government began works on what they called the ‘Melbourne Underground Rail Loop.’ The population of the city had risen to two and half million people about half of what it is today and the infrastructure was hard-pressed to keep up. So the arduous task of tunnelling under the famo  ...read more

UNSW gets High Level Protection

With the increasing occurrence of terror attacks around the world, Sydney’s city council has been taking steps to enhance security around public spaces in the city centre. In June this year, the council installed concrete bollards along Martin Place at the location of the Lindt Café siege, to prevent terrorist attacks like those we have seen in London, Barcelona and Nice. According to a City of Sydney spokesperson, the bollards will help to “strengthen security in public places”. We couldn’t agree more. With terror attacks sparking fear, th  ...read more

Military level protection

Historic buildings and sites in Australia are an important part of our heritage, and many of them continue to be used for modern purposes. Camp Road Military Base commonly known as the Broadmeadows Maygar Barracks is a good example of how a century old military base still has significance today. The base was used for the first time in 1914 at the onset of the Great War after having been purchased by the Department of Defence. Since then, it has served as a hunting club and even a hostel in the sixties. Despite its age, the Broadmeadows barracks is still an important milita  ...read more
