VicRoads is in partnership with the TAC to deliver improvements on the top 20 highest risk rural roads. NJM Group applauds this move and is well positioned to assist VicRoads and the TAC in providing solutions as we move towards a safer Victoria. One of the targeted areas is the Princess Highway which VicRoads has proposed the installation of wire rope centerline barriers between Stratford and Bairnsdale. Rural liquor store ram raided

Two thieves have used a what-seems-to-be-stolen ute as a tool to smash the entrance of a Koo Wee Rup liquor store, in Melbourne’s southeast in the early hours of the Friday morning. Two masked-men stole cigarette lighters and two tills full of cash; albeit failed to break into a cigarette cabinet using their bare hands. The men entered with no tools when the ram raid occurred. The car used in the crime; which can easily be distinct, having black and white number plates, is similar to that of a Ford Ranger with a front bull bar, snorkel and steel tray at the back.   ...read more

Car accident intensifies public safety concerns

An 87-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car outside Woolworths in the Lakeview Shopping Centre parking lot in Pattersons Lakes. The car park has been under heavy scrutiny by the public and the local council for a while now and this incident has intensified public concern. Carrum & Patterson Lakes Forum founder Cameron Howe said locals had been calling for a revamp of the car park for years. "The feedback's been very strong and quite clear," he said. "There needs to be a full assessment, an audit, to understand driver behavior and to see whether we c  ...read more

Looking back at Melbourne's City Loop construction

With the City Loop going through a major upgrade, we thought it might be interesting to take a look back at how it all began 46 years ago. It was 1971 in Melbourne, the cost of a loaf of bread was 24 cents, the cassette tape was the latest and greatest in technology and the Victorian Government began works on what they called the ‘Melbourne Underground Rail Loop.’ The population of the city had risen to two and half million people about half of what it is today and the infrastructure was hard-pressed to keep up. So the arduous task of tunnelling under the famo  ...read more

UNSW gets High Level Protection

With the increasing occurrence of terror attacks around the world, Sydney’s city council has been taking steps to enhance security around public spaces in the city centre. In June this year, the council installed concrete bollards along Martin Place at the location of the Lindt Café siege, to prevent terrorist attacks like those we have seen in London, Barcelona and Nice. According to a City of Sydney spokesperson, the bollards will help to “strengthen security in public places”. We couldn’t agree more. With terror attacks sparking fear, th  ...read more

Keeping SA safe

When it comes to protection from terrorist attacks in public areas, sporting arenas are a high priority. They are venues where tens of thousands of people group together which means it is an ideal target for VBIED and VBT attacks. The Adelaide Oval has recognized this and is preparing to replace their temporary concrete barriers with 190 steel bollards giving the oval 360-degree protection. Transport Minister, Stephen Mullighan said the safety and security of Adelaide Oval attendees and staff is his number one priority. He said the tempo  ...read more
